Doesn't the tool break?

It does not break, crack nor chip due to the Ceramic Fibers being bound and hardened by the resin binder.
Even though it's only 0.5mm thick, it can be used for polishing. It's ideal for polishing narrow areas such as removing EDM scales in deep ribs.

Why doesn't the tool get clogged?

It’s because of the self-sharpening action. The cutting edge on the tip of the Ceramic Fiber is continuously recovered when polishing.
Wet processing is recommended when polishing aluminum alloy.

What kinds of workpieces can be processed?

Workpieces of all kinds of metal whose hardness is up to HRC57; NAK80, STAVAX, S45C(Steel 0.45%C) etc. for metal molds. *XEBEC Ceramic Stone™ Diamond is recommended for use with materials harder than HRC57 (from hardened steel to cemented carbide).

How can the tool be used?

The tip of the ceramic stone has grinding power. Use the tip at an angle to the surface of the workpiece for polishing (approximately 5~45 degrees is effective.)

Can the side of the tool be used?

There is no grinding power on the side of the tool. Use the tip at an angle to polish the surface of a workpiece.

Can the tool be used with vibration tools?

It can be used with ultrasonic, air or electric vibration tools.
For ultrasonic tools, we recommend XEBEC Ceramic Stone™ Heat-Resistant that are specially-designed for use with ultrasonic tools.

Can the tool be used with oil coolant?

It can be used with water-soluble coolant, oil-soluble coolant or kerosene, etc.
Wet processing results in higher polishing efficiency than dry processing.

How can the tool be formed?

Forming (such as thinning the tip of the tool) is possible with an electrodeposited diamond file or sandpaper.

What types of processing can the pencil type be used for?

It is optimal for precision processing, such as engraving of molds.

Can I use commercially available products as holders for the pencil type?

You can simply use φ0.7㎜ and φ1.3mm drafting pencils. The ceramic stone angle is 0.9mm, and 0.5mm respectively.

What is the difference from XEBEC Ceramic Stone™ Meister Finish?

We successfully increased the resistance temperature from 100°C to 200°C and specially designed them for ultrasonic tools.
Therefore, durability and polishing efficiency are enhanced.

Can the tools be used other than with ultrasonic tools?

They can be used with air or electric vibration tools. Of course, they can also be used by hand.

Are there diamond abrasive grains on its surface?

Since, unlike electrodeposited diamond files, diamond abrasive grains are evenly embedded inside the tool. Both the tip and the sides of the tool can be used also.

What kind of materials can be polished?

Materials harder than HRC57 such as cemented carbide and hardened steel that XEBEC Ceramic Stone™ Meister Finish can't process can be polished. For materials softer than HRC57, XEBEC Ceramic Stone™ Meister Finish is recommended.

What is the difference from XEBEC Ceramic Stone™ Meister Finish?

Thanks to an elastic rubber-type binder, it can be used with soft materials (copper electrodes, aluminum) without having to worry about damaging the materials.

What can it be used for?

It is suitable for deburring of groove edges after end milling, light chamfering of drill holes and edge breaking.

What sizes are available?

It comes in three sizes: Φ3, Φ5 and Φ6.

Can the ceramic stone be shaped?

Yes, it can easily be formed to suitable shape for your workpiece by using an electrodeposited diamond file.

How long is the tool life?

It lasts dozens of times longer than a rubber mounted point. It uses high abrasion resistance ceramic, and since the 6mm and 3mm diameter ceramic stones do not have a central axis, it can be used until the end.

Does it contain abrasive grains?

They do not contain any abrasive grains. Ceramic fibers themselves are the abrasive material.
As the structure of the bristles is continuously constant, the cutting edges are continuously produced by the self-sharpening action of the ceramic fiber bristle tips. This provides stable and continuous grinding performance even though the tool is worn during processing.

How do you use it?

The brush for the machine (XEBEC Brush Surface) is mounted on the tool changer for the machining center, and removes burrs within the machine after the cutting process. (Applicable to robots, special-purpose machinery, and drilling machines.) XEBEC Brush End type is used attached to power tools (or machine tools as well).

What is the thickness of a 0.1 mm burr?

Burrs of a thickness that would break if pushed with a fingernail is the target for our deburring tools.

What are the appropriate processing conditions?

We have prepared a “Recommended Initial Parameters” chart for rotation speed, depth of cut, feed rate, etc. Please refer to it.

Is it possible to process the corner R part?

It is difficult with the XEBEC Brush Surface. Rather, XEBEC Brush End type is recommended. XEBEC Brush End type has a taper on its tip, and can connect to curved surfaces. It can be used with electric rotary tools, in machining centers, etc.

Can the tool be used for wet processing?

It can be used in dry as well as wet (both oil-based and water-soluble) conditions. Coolants used for cutting can be applied. In addition, using the tool with coolant promotes higher durability and better results.

Are there any effects on the surface from the brush?

This brush is also for surface finishing and it's possible to improve surface roughness up to around Ra=0.1µm. Applying technology of ceramic stones for mold polishing; this brush does not leave scratches on the workpiece as it contains no grains.
However, using it on aluminum surfaces processed with a diamond cutter might produce a slightly foggy appearance.

How long is the tool life?

Depending on processing conditions, condition of burrs, material properties etc. it can process from thousands to tens of thousands of pieces. Since it is a ceramic brush, it has a high level of abrasion resistance. We have observed in practice, post-milling deburring of an oil pan with an outer circumference of 1 meter (material: aluminum automotive component): 10,000 jobs per cylinder (straight line distance of 10,000m=10km).

How can truing and dressing be performed?

The easiest and most inexpensive way is to press the brush onto C-grit sandpaper (equivalent to #80) attached to a board while the brush rotates. Using an electrodeposited diamond stone is recommended, as more efficient and cleaner truing or dressing can be done.

What is the difference of XEBEC Brush Surface for precision deburring?

Using ceramic fibers significantly finer (around Φ0.4mm) than previously available XEBEC Brush Surfaces, it enables more precise deburring. It is basically used in the same way as XEBEC Brush Surface.

Is it possible to buy only sleeve set screws?

We recommend using our genuine products. Please contact the nearest XEBEC tool retailer. Here is a list of screws of various sleeve sizes.

What should I do if the tip of the pipe outside the sleeve has become thin?

After prolonged use, the inside of the tip of the pipe on the side of the brush becomes thin because of polishing. Please replace the sleeve.

Do I need a XEBEC Floating Holder ?

XEBEC Floating Holder is an optional tool and XEBEC Brush Surface can be used on machines without it.
Many users use it in mass production lines to (1) reduce the number of adjustments to depth of cut and brush projection due to tool wear (actual case: 1/18), (2) extend tool life (actual case: 4 times), and (3) effectively stabilize edge quality.

What is the shank diameter?

The straight shank-type FH-ST12 has a diameter of Φ12 and can be used with a wide variety of machines, such as drill presses, NC lathes, and so on. The BT30 and BT40 specifically for machining center use are available.

How is the XEBEC Floating Holder FH-ST12 attached to the machines?

It can be attached to machinery using a milling chuck, drill chuck or other equipment.

Can the load value be changed?

Three springs of different load value are included, and can be changed to achieve required finishing.

Can it be used with coolant?

It can be used both with/without coolant. However, do not use a pull bolt with a through-bore (center-through style) on the tool holder. If high pressure coolant enters the inside of the holders, the floating part stops operating.
In addition, when applying coolant from the side, please apply it to the tip of the brush and do not apply it to the XEBEC Floating Holder directly. The floating motion might slow down if coolant leaks into the XEBEC Floating Holder through the air vent.

What should I consider when using it with a horizontal machining center?

When using it with a horizontal machining center, the floating function may stop working if the spring is too weak. Please change to a heavy-load spring.

What should I do if the floating process becomes slow?

There may be a clogging of sludge from the coolant. Disassemble the tool to clean it inside as when changing the spring (as described in the instruction manual).

What is the grindstone made of?

It is a ceramic stone for mold polishing. The stone has grinding power on the entire surface.

What materials can be processed?

Stainless steel, aluminum alloy, general steel materials, copper and other metal materials up to HRC57, as well as resin.

Can it be used for deburring from the secondary processing hole?

There are successful cases of contouring (deburring holes) by machining centers.

Can it be used with air tools too?

Be sure to use it with power tools that can regulate their number of revolutions because the shaft can become fractured when using air tools with a high-revolution speed. In addition, maximum revolution speed is Φ3:15,000min-1, Φ4:13,000min-1, Φ5:12,000min-1, Φ6:15,000min-1.

What ceramic stone sizes are available?

There are four types: Φ3, Φ4, Φ5, and Φ6. For more information, please refer to the product catalog.

Is it possible to specify the grit?

Please select from 3 grit sizes (#220, #400, #800).

How long is the tool life?

Over 30 times longer life than that of an elastic mounted point, and over 10 times longer life than that of vitrified mounted point according to the data of XEBEC testing.

What is the required tool revolution speed?

Φ1.5(CH-A12-1.5M): Please try the initial parameter at 12,000min-1. In that case, we recommend using it in the range of 10,000 – 20,000 min-1. Other sizes (CH-A12 series): Please try the initial parameter at 10,000 min-1. However, we recommend using it in the range of 8,000 – 12,000min-1.

What kind of rotary machine can these tools be used with?

It can be processed with NC devices or special-purpose machinery, but the number of revolutions must be higher than 8,000min-1. Raise the number of revolutions using an air spindle or an amplifier when the revolutions will not increase.

What size of burrs can be removed?

This tool is designed for the removal of fine burrs where the base thickness is 0.1 mm or less after machine processing (about the size where pressing with a fingernail will break it).

What kind of work materials can be processed?

Stainless steel, aluminum alloy, general steel materials, copper and other metal materials up to HRC57, as well as resin.

What is the applicable range of bore diameters?

Four sizes of brush can accommodate primary bore diameters ranging from ø3.5mm to ø20mm.

What is the surface roughness after processing?

Rmax is about 2.2µm.

Does the process affect the internal bore diameter in primary processing?

Depending on the processing conditions, grinding amount of the internal surface is a few μm.

Doest wet (oil) processing have any problems?

They can be used for both dry and wet processing.

Is the brush shape deformed during processing?

As there is virtually no bristle configurational change such as distortion or expansion during the deburring process (unlike nylon or wire brushes), more consistently stable deburring and grinding performance on tip of the rod can be attained.

How long is the tool life? How many units can be processed?

We have achieved approx. 4,500 holes in our testing. It is more than 7 times that of a diamond abrasives-impregnated nylon brush.

What kind of successful applications do you have?

As examples with the machining center, (1) cross-hole deburring of automotive engine parts (2) polishing of the bottom of blind holes after drilling and end milling.

The brush protection tube came loose.

When using high-concentrate coolant, the tube may harden and come out. Please remove the tube before use (* ).
*Please be advised that deburring ability may vary.

I used the brush within the target diameter but it broke.

When the aperture ratio of the secondary hole diameter is 50% or greater than the primary hole diameter (for example Φ20 primary and Φ15 secondary hole), depending on the bore shape, there is a risk that the brush will break.
Please use after performing initial testing to verify that the breakage does not occur. During the initial testing, pay attention to the behavior of the brush tip.
