How to use

  1. Install the sleeve (brush) onto the XEBEC Floating Holder , and fasten the shank fixation screw.
  2. When pressing the brush onto the workpiece, the spring inside the XEBEC Floating Holder will be compressed, causing heavy loads on the workpiece. The load when using 0mm stroke is about 4.5N, and about 6.3N when using 6mm stroke.
  3. Lower the brush vertically and make contact with the workpiece. If the brush is contacted to the side of the workpiece, there may be a risk of damaging the brush due to the projected portion getting caught in the workpiece.

How to install a special bush

  • Match the shank fixing screw hole with the indicator, insert the specialized bush all the way, and set the shank fixing screw.

Replacement of Inside Spring

* Use the spring with the specification XEBEC indicates (refer to below) or it may result in malfunction or breakage of the tool.
* Use snap ring pliers for C type internal ring (C-shaped retaining ring size:20mm) when disassembling and assembling the C-shaped retaining ring.

  1. Remove the C-shaped retaining ring 2.
  2. Remove steel ball cap ring retaining the steel balls, and take out steel balls from the main unit. (2 locations)
  3. Withdraw tool holding portion from the main unit, replace spring, apply thin coating of grease on sliding portion (tool holding portion), and then return it to the main unit.
    • (1) When returning the tool holding portion to the main unit, check that there is no dirt, etc. adhering within the tool holding portion or within the boat-shaped groove. Also check for dirt, etc. within the tool main unit.
    • (2) When returning it, align the boat-shaped groove of the tool holding portion with the hole in the cap screw retaining the steel ball, which is on the main unit of the floating holder.
    Recommended grease : Multi-Purpose Lithium Grease(NLGI #2)
  4. Insert the steel balls (two locations), attach the steel ball cap ring retaining the steel balls, and then fit the C-shaped retaining ring 2 into the groove for this ring.
    • (1) Use only XEBEC specified steel balls. Dangerous operation failure or tool damage may occur otherwise.
  5. After replacing springs, press bottom of tool holding portion with your fingers, and check to see that tool holding portion slides 6 mm.

Maintenance

* Use snap ring pliers for C type internal ring (C-shaped retaining ring size:20mm) when disassembling and assembling the C-shaped retaining ring.

  1. Remove the C-shaped retaining ring 2.
  2. Remove steel ball cap ring retaining the steel balls, and take out steel balls from the main unit. (2 locations)
  3. Remove the tool holding portion from the main unit and take out the spring.
  4. Wipe off the dirt inside the main unit and on the tool holding portion.
  5. Sparingly apply grease to the sliding portion (tool holding portion), re-attach the spring, and return the sliding portion to the main unit.
    • (1) When returning the tool holding portion to the main unit, check that there is no dirt, etc. adhering within the tool holding portion or within the boat-shaped groove. Also check for dirt, etc. within the tool main unit.
    • (2) When returning it, align the boat-shaped groove of the tool holding portion with the hole in the cap screw retaining the steel ball, which is on the main unit of the floating holder. Recommended grease : Multi-Purpose Lithium Grease(NLGI #2)
  6. Insert the steel balls (two locations), attach the steel ball cap ring retaining the steel balls, and then fit the C-shaped retaining ring 2 into the groove for this ring. Use only XEBEC specified steel balls. Dangerous operation failure or tool damage may occur otherwise.
  7. After assembling the parts, press bottom of tool holding portion with your fingers, and check to see that tool holding portion slides 6 mm.

* It is recommended to periodically carry out maintenance. The interval of maintenance varies depending on the frequency of operation.
* If you leave the floating holder unused for a long period of time, make sure to perform maintenance before storing the floating holder. Otherwise, the sliding portion may stick.

Precautions in Use

[Pre-operation Inspection]

  • When mounting tool on the machine, insert the shank all the way to the bottom of the chuck, then secure it tightly. In mounting the XEBEC XEBEC Brush for Surface, insert the shank all the way into the tool holding tube, and secure it tightly with shank-fastening screw.
  • Conduct a test run for one minute or more before starting work, and three minutes or more after changing the tool, to confirm the absence of any abnormality such as tool vibration or looseness.
  • Even if nothing abnormal occurs during the test run, stop operation immediately if you find anything unusual such as vibration; dangerous shank slipping out, breakage, deformation or even tool breakdown may occur.

[Tools that can be Mounted on]

  • This floating holder is made for XEBEC XEBEC Brush for Surface with 40 mm and 25 mm diameter. Also XEBEC XEBEC Brush for Surface with 15 mm and 6 mm diameters can be mounted using the attached special bushing.

[How to Mount Special Bushing]

  • Align shank-fastening screw hole with aligning setting mark, insert special bushing as far as it will go, then secure the shank-fastening screw.

[Cutting load, floating stroke]

  • The weight of the tool itself affects the cutting load, depending on the tool direction in processing.
  • The floating stroke is 6 mm at the maximum.

[RPM]

  • Operate at less than the maximum rpm of 5,000. Usage above the maximum rpm may result in breakage of the tool.
  • Choose the ideal rpm carefully after reading the Instruction Manual for XEBEC XEBEC Brush for Surface.

[Dry or Wet Processing]

  • Tool can be used for either wet or dry processing.
  • For dry processing, use a dust collector to collect the dust that may be generated during the processing.
  • During wet processing, make sure that the holder is not exposed to the coolant.
  • If dust or coolant gets inside the holder, the floating function will not work.

[When Attaching to Machining Center]

  • When attaching the floating holder to a machining center, do not use a pull bolt with through-hole (center through pull bolt).
    If the coolant gets inside the holder, the floating portion will not operate.
  • Use a with a heavy load or a heavy-load spring adjuster when a horizontal machining center is used.
    If the spring load is light, the floating portion may not operate. Please check operation before use.

Operation Safety Measure

[For protective Equipment]

  • Always wear protective goggles, gloves and masks when oparating the tool. Wear long sleeves, tight cuff, and clothing to minimize skin exposure.

[Pre- operation inspection]

  • When mounting on machines, insert the shank end all the way to the bottom of the chuck, and secure it tightly.
    Stop the tool immediately if you find anything unusual such as vibration; dangerous head or shaft breakage, deformation or even tool breakdown may occur.

[Beware of Grinding Powder]

  • Grinding powder and burrs may scatter within an area around the work as the tools revolve; please stay clear of this area.
    When using on high-precision equipment, the abrasive powder may adversely affect the sliding parts, so please be sure to collect any dust and keep clean the equipment.

[Caution to your surroundings]

  • The area around your work is hazardous in case flying pieces of fiber rods from the tools and grinding powder may scatter, enclose your working area to prevent other people entering, or have the people surrounding your work area protective equipment as well.
